Deep down,

I wanted you to hear things you did not normally hear,

and to keep for me the candy I had ask for,

but really for you to see how little I ever asked for,

and I wanted to keep my string,

and my flashlight,

and my old shoes,

and all the things that would be my own,

you know,

when everything else went the way of the dust bowl,

went the way of the fault line,

all of them,

and those to come,

Keep strong,

stronger if need be
