I'm not going to shake your hand,
you had grease under your fingernails,
and there were pieces of soap lodged there,
which means it never made its way into your skin,
and you sweat a lot,
not just in your palms,
and I saw dust in the fissures there,
Just didn't like the thought of it,
really,
who knew where you had been,
I think I saw sand,
and a speck of gold dust,
but that was no never mind,
and even the dirt was discolored,
very discolored in fact,
it took all my energy to ask you if you had showered recently,
how often you scrubbed the tile in your bathroom,
how many times a day you washed your hands
I locked this door,
and wrapped myself in a blanket that you had not touched,
and maybe it was a bit of Charles Bonnet,
I think I was a little left in the head like him,
I didn't mean what I said about you,
but I couldn't shake your hand---
