October Surprise

This way

and that

This was unexpected,
unplanned,
and only revealed that you were, in fact,
much dumber than I had assumed,

Smart in many ways,
but insensitive in pockets that mattered,
incapable of walking in my shoes,
or her shoes,
for that matter,
because you did not have to,

You said I was incompetent,
lazy even,
dejected,
laced with a victim mentality,

Hearing that numbed me,
profoundly, in fact,

and all that comes to mind is the art of projection,
and then the art of perfection,

So I thought I would lie here on my pillow,
lie here,
while I waited for you to fuck this up,
because that is probably what came naturally to you,

the fuck up

You who leads the pack of seahorses,
once admired for their differences,
now known for their faux timidity,

You were nothing good to me,
nothing good for me,

and this was exactly what was expected,
the notion that thirty six days out,
we are only to expect the unexpected

from the likes of us
