The Futility of Frivolous Forethought

Would we always talk the way we talk now?
Would we recognize the appearance of our brain decades from now?

Would we knock out each other's teeth if there were no consequences?
Would we play the bongos if someone told us we could only play one instrument?

Would we write left handed voluntarily if no one would call us a freak of nature?
Would we pretend that we took such names as a compliment?

Would we be lazy if the word lazy did not exist?
Would we put sunscreen on if we did not no one had aged beyond us?

Would we think about why clocks make ticking noises if we knew nothing of time?
Would we cry ourselves to sleep if we did not know the sunset was a precursor to sunrise?

Would we associate pinstripes with prohibition if they never went out of rotation?
Would we have a dinosaur wallpaper in our bedrooms if dinosaurs had never been extinct?

Would you could you could I think of these futile thoughts all day everyday if not for boredom?
Would you could you could I believe we had better things to set our minds to?

Maybe.

Maybe if you never taught me dominoes.

Maybe not.
