While You Work
Carry on with ease,
this was all easier said than done,
but maybe someday,
many Moons and Suns from now,
we will all learn to tighten our fists,
to put one foot in front of another,
and to raise our voices in song,
Teach us how to die,
how to understand the dissipation that comes with each passing day,
how to see it as the emulsive thing it can be,
and we will,
in turn,
give you the life you put in your ledger for us,
Teach us sentience,
and we will forever empathize with empathy,
you know what I mean when I say that,
you do
Let us sleep with a tingling sensation up and down our vertebrae,
we will keep our eyes closed until you say that should open,
and open wide,
Many Sun ups and downs from now,
many,
we will rub our achy eyes,
we will bandage our bloody fingers,
and we will warble verses into eternity,
humming along with the dwarves,
knowing it was worth it,
worth the while
