The Repercussion of a Recount

There were things left to do,
outstanding items in my ledger,
things I could not, would not,
want you handling in the event of my permanent absence

There were checks to be written,
many in fact,

There were things to be said,
many in fact,

There were perishables that had perished,
many in fact,

I needed errands run,
but you were out of breath,
as you had been for quite some time

I needed items counted,
but you did not know how to itemize

I needed your hand,
and suddenly you were webbed beyond reparations

Things were left on this list of mine,
the remains of my day,
things I could not, would not,
hand to you
