I didn't do what they said I did,
but I didn't do what they wanted me to do either,
and there wasn't an in between,
and I didn't do what I thought was right,
I did what I knew was right---

It was a bunch of stuff from early Fall 1929,
before the storm,
before that periphery ended and the next one began,
and I knew it was right because they could still see right to left,
and left to right,
and the clouds in between,

but I didn't do what they said,
because they were the worst,
and would likely never change
