Surely you believe me when I tell you there's so much left for us to do,
to believe in,
to reach up toward,
towards?
But for you to believe me, would that mean you didn't need reason?
Fact, even?
Science rather?
I got so,
I got so confused that I didn't know what faith meant any more,
other than that having it was not something looked highly upon,
was not something resting in this zeitgeist,
today,
years after the turn of the century,
and I never understood why I liked that term so much,
until now,
when it seemed the wheel of fortune was slowing to a halt,
this wasn't Edison Square,
and we couldn't spin around each other forever,
and we had all the reason to think our tomorrows here were numbered,
and so,
so it's a lot for me to ask,
of you,
of anyone really,
but here I am,
leaving my mark---
