The Two Way

Sometimes I wondered if you wondered about me,
and with that child like---
well, I got to wandering through the synapses up here,
the way you can get lost in a field of corn,

and when I was wandering,
I wondered if you were wondering what I was doing here without you,
if you had your head under in those sheets of ours,
that you still had not washed,
just as I had yet to give mine the spin cycle of sorts,

and when I was wondering,
I wondered if you were thinking of suicide,
just as I had before meeting the edge of the corn field here,
they told me it was natural,
and you always told me to trust my instincts

and when I was wondering about death,
as we all do after we learn of its existence,
I wondered if you would miss me if I were gone,
because I knew I would miss you,

or maybe not,
maybe I would just miss the wonder of it all

whatever was left,
even just these tidbits here

  1. This was dark. I like the image of wandering through the corn field wondering. This is a playful scene with playful language. The author seems not only to question the intentions and thoughts of others, but seems to lack confidence in his/her own thoughts as well. There is an ominous sense of indecision, as if the writer is at the whim of his/her own words.
