The Bird's Eye
There was good stone on the side of this building,
the kind that waited for great epitaphs,
for artists to mold it into something,
or architects to lay it somewhere complimentary,
but if I told you this stone was destined for greatness,
you would tell me I was misinformed,
delusional even,
Up here,
above some cumulonimbus items,
above these obstructions,
we were just going to sit here with our legs dangling over the side,
looking down at the marble floors
and how nobody down there appreciated them,
The gargoyles knew what I was talking about,
they did not need a second look,
they had been made of this magnificence for some time now,
We both had a sense for these things,
pole sitters,
with our premonitions about such things,
it felt good to have some best laid plans,
perhaps there was some worthiness to our ominous sensibilities after all,
even up here above the clarions,
where no one can hear the trees fall in the forest

The gargoyles are certainly underappreciated (unless they are in Ghostbusters!)
