U.S. Proper, Circa November 2012

Was it not true that we all just wanted a fair shake?

But some of us did not believe in Venn diagrams,
and not out of anger,
but out of ignorance,

Something always comes from ignorance,
you said this once to me,
ignorance is the tangible intangible of problems in the mind,
a weed,
a winding sickly confluence of habits that made its way into a frying pan
and burned this mother down

Were we always this evil,
this cynical,
this void of nostalgia,

What was so bad about nostalgia?

Nothing,
other than it was worse than tobacco,
it was addictive,
and made of hope,

And somewhere here in the middle belt,
it got to be passe to look forward to something,
to believe in all of this,

It's a good thing I only knew from what I knew from,
and that I knew cliche was cliche,
in and of itself,

It sure is a good thing,
especially now that I know wrong from optimism,

Yes,

that's right,
right here
