The Tree Foil
I got my finger caught in tree sap,
and I moved it around in a circular motion until I could no longer move it around,
so I looked up at a most unfortunate canopy,
and I wrapped my other arm,
and my other hand,
and as much of my body as I could,
around its trunk
I didn't believe in looking up to anyone,
or anything,
because it was such a waste of time,
building things up to be something they were not
They were always brittle, these trees of mine,
and I knew they would outlive me,
and all of you,
and anyone who could recall what your trunks looked like now,
so I looked down,
at the ragged, brown grass,
and I sunk my toes into the soil,
so I could get good and used to where I was going,
and I cricked my neck just enough to recall the beauty of the aging leaves
and the intangibility of everything behind me
