The Double Sided Tape

If I told you that I loved you, would you believe me?
---because apparently I didn't believe it, myself,

---or in myself,
for that matter,
or anything that matters,
or in anything else that matters

We learned to justify our justifications somewhere along the line,
and in line,
and when we got out of line,
we backtracked with good reason

But when our reasoning was questioned,
and our questions were rigged,
we began making idolatry out of preconceived notions,

If I told you that I loathed you, would you believe me?
---because apparently I believed in it, myself,

---about myself,
more than once,
more than all of this,

when it got cold in here,
and you looked me in the eye,
and told me that we had all we needed,
we had more than enough---
