I thought it would be a good idea to live fast
and die young---
It was a beautiful and irreverent idea,
one with no hairpins or caveats or misconceptions
When we all piled into the back of the '33 Plymouth,
our purple outfits made us seem invincible,
because that is what we aspired to be
But you cannot aspire to be invincible,
it was the same as putting effort into apathy---
it didn't add up
I remembered that you liked my hair long,
stringy,
and messy---
the way it was that night
So I would spend these days in the mirror,
and on my walks to the cemetery,
looking to look that way---
for you
So that we could have our Monday evenings back,
purple Mondays with no one to answer to,
but the darkened blanket above
Percieved invincibility can only end in one way. Here's hoping to our nine lives!!!!!!!
