The Chalkboard Hindsight of a Sixteen Year Old, Littleton Colorado, March 1999

I will not say the word retard when referring to the mistakes of a classmate.

I will not wear a letterman's jacket to purposely be boastful of my talents.

I will not hold her hand.

I will not smile more than is necessary.

I will not scoff at trench coats.

I will not assume.

I will not assume.

I will learn to play dead for next time.

I will not---

make a move.

  1. Conceptually, this piece is very strong. I think if you keep the "I will" repetition in place, and add a little more abstraction so that the payoff is even more climactic.
