The Strange

I collected matchsticks.

Not matchbooks---just the sticks.

They reminded me of Lincoln logs and things from when I fancied myself a builder,

or an architect,

or anything with a purpose [of sorts]

Maybe collectors are just hoarders [of sorts]

constantly coexisting in the stacks,

always looking to form new eyelines with no concept of a horizon

or the desire to find it

And when I was bored,

I started counting lunch boxes,

and change,

and all the things I could have done with my [pick up] sticks
