The Night. Stand.

Safely, safely I lay my head down at night and think of you

Slowly, slowly I go over all the mistakes we did and did not make in my head

Right to left to right to left I turn my head in hopes of obstructing this stalemate

Blink, blink and I watched my phone on the table next to this horrible pillow,
to see if you were tossing your notions the same as me

Eleven, then twelve, and so forth and so on until it was today,
and I had yet to hear [what I needed to hear] from you

And tonight, I hold his hand and stare at the ceiling,
hearing David Gray and the piano and how it no longer belonged to this bed

Twice over and even with these tired eyelids,
I can see the faded stains of the incorrect Orion's belt you tried to string together just for me,

And I can no longer sleep so soundly,
it's far too loud in here,
and up

in here
