Maybe it's true that I don't need you and you don't need me.
Yes, it's true---
and I felt this when my knees weren't quite what I imagined them to be at this time of night
You offered me a hand up and I waved it away,
I waved it all away because it was just easier that way,
wasn't it---
I think, some day, in another life, you liked my long hair,
and you didn't get mad when it fell in your face---
You told me it was okay
and that it meant we belonged to each other
that maybe we didn't belong
but we belonged to each other
And you stopped being here
and here
and returned to me
back here
and you held my hand
not because I needed you to
but because I needed you to
But that was another life,
and we only live once,
or so they say---
yes, they say---
such is the balanced imbalance here
such is a sad balance here. Painful, truthful, lovely.
ReplyDeleteAh such is life full of intangibles that always tip the scales one way or another!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
