There was blood all over her tutu
she hadn't eaten in days so the only thing she could think to do
was lick it---
She figured if she could taste it,
it meant something
something was still here
the capillaries were still relevant
In front of the mirror, she pulled her skin down
to see how far it could go before her undereyes turned blue
then black
This was the only way someone would know to worry about her
so she went to the window and breathed on the glass
and then put her cheek up against it to find her threshold
Maybe if she left the corner light on,
none of this would be the case
Is this an ode to the schizophrenic and paranoid? The simple solution at the end is puzzling and in a way begs the question: after harming one's self to the degree that she has, how could the literal act of leaving a light on solve her problem(s)? This has bipolar written all over it.
