Deep in the confines of a file cabinet were all my semblances of you
and that's where I preferred they rest
and be put there to rest
six drawers under and seven folders deep
somewhere in its milky way, I knew you would find something in kind
something
Then I could think of us as the treesitters we were
parking our ambitions in uncharted territory just to impress
and all the while---
and the very end of every while,
I was keeping score of your crow's feet to my lip side's rainbow fissures
you win.
Sounds like a losing battle to me!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou appear very drawn to themes of aging. The crow's feet reference is not new to your work, however, by comparing that to "my lips side's rainbow fissures", you've created an analogy that is altogether new and very visually rich. The file cabinet stanza makes one think of how the passing of someone close can eventually be boiled down to finances, although I am not sure if that was the formal effect you were going for.
