The Up Side of Hind Sight

I learned how to hold my head up high and high---
and pack my bags without so much as a tear
and I didn't have to remind myself to smile

Up against the wall
with my neck against the fresh paint,
I realized what I could bring to the table

Something more
that's all it ever was
that was missing

And I allowed for the slow death of my compulsion
for the sake of happiness

this was warranted
and I was worthy

and I had smiling cheeks
from the deep breaths I was able to take
and I liked that I still believed in the fata morgana
and in what the steep horizon had in store

for me

and me alone

  1. fata morgana – interesting choice of words. Seems like you've overcome something here.

  2. Change can be a very good thing. We should go out into the world and seek change but remembering that change for change sake is not always a good idea. Anything that helps us grow as a person is good!!!!
