Maybe it was true that we were all being groomed for selfishness

because that's what we do---

Remembering things that never happened

because it was okay to be a dealbreaker

We liked to quote movies because it meant that we existed

somewhere

way back when things were better

because they were always better when we weren't recalling them

And it was always easy to be generous when there was more of it

to go around---
