The Second Season

She told him he never needed to say the words
that he should just be close at hand
that all would be right with the world if he would leave her to her bedroom
and Dusty Springfield

and if he came back now and again

The summer was winding down since the first day of winter
apparent with the changing scent of the grass
the unnecessariness of his sheets
sticky, messy, and irreverent
perennial in its ability to remind her of the death of things

And every time he went to bed somewhere else
so did she
with a new resolve
a warm body
and the haunts of eyes searing into her backside

And like that
a changing of the leaves

  1. Seasonal break up? Either way, there is a continued theme of sadness. I wish our hero would pep up and be the rock that she is.
