The Ringleader

I was beginning to feel sorry for the tree--
if that was even possible

Loneliness, as it turns out, isn't only for human beings--
another assumption
among many
proved wrong and entirely disputable by all things voiceless

Merely acknowledged when discussing the long distance runner
Dickinson
Thunder Road
and the walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death

At the end of the dirt road was supposed to be a grove
and a canopy
but things don't always work out the way they are supposed to, now do they?

And there it stood--
a lone maple

within eye shot of Dickinson
after the screen door slams
in the peripheral of the great steeplechase

Unnoticed
overlooked--
wilting over scores

  1. Sometimes you might be surprised the little unnoticed one becomes the giant forest sequoia. Near emily's window!!!!!
