In My Room

There was a great song by the Beach Boys that also happens to be the title of this article. It glamorized the art of solitude, the magnificence of being alone with your thoughts. But what it doesn't do is tell you that while you're in that room, there are, in fact, 20 songs that would sit by your side, and make it all the better while you do whatever it is that you do in there.

This list isn't to set a mood or to assist in figuring yourself out. It isn't going to solve your problems with your self-identity, but what it will do is prove itself as a worthy companion and resident of the confines of your room--wherever that may be.

Without further ado, the top twenty songs to sit still with, a veritable recipe for how to let it be:

Back to Black by Amy Winehouse
Sweet Talk by The Killers
Videotape by Radiohead
Somewhere Only We Know by Keane
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by The Platters
VCR by The XX
Wonderful by Everclear
Come Softly To Me by The Fleetwoods
That's Life by Frank Sinatra
Look After You by The Fray
Who's Loving You by The Jackson 5
Tell Him by Lauren Hill
Stop Crying Your Eyes Out by Oasis
Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam
Your Woman by White Town
The Scientist by Coldplay
Just a Friend by Biz Markie
Artificial Flowers by Bobby Darin
New York City Serenade by Bruce Springsteen
Train in Vain by The Clash

I don't know much. But I know this list promises not to disappoint. If nothing else, it will certainly make you rethink the 'invention of solitude.'
